Waikato Dairy Farming Curriculum
All LEARNZ field trips targeting secondary schools are closely linked to the New Zealand curriculum, in particular geography and science. They can also be used by other subject teachers, as well as primary and intermediate schools.
The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) 2007
Values and Key Competencies
The Waikato Dairy Farming field trip encourages, models and explores the values of community and participation, and ecological sustainability. See page 10 NZC (2007).
This trip also contributes to the development of all five key competencies, particularly:
Thinking - ask questions and challenge the basis of assumptions and perceptions.
Using language, symbols and texts - confidently use ICT to access and provide information and to communicate with others.
Participating and contributing - understand the importance of balancing rights, roles and responsibilities and of contributing to the quality and sustainability of social, cultural, physical and economic environments.
See pages 12-13 NZC (2007).
